How do I apply?

Each candidate goes through an admission procedure based on their age and the grade they are applying for. It is necessary to fill out an online application for admission on the school's website and sit the relevant admission exams according to a schedule determined by the school.

What documents are required for the application?

Along with your application for admission, we expect you to send us academic transcripts for the last two years, as well as copies of diplomas and certificates from completed courses or competitions if the student has such.

In which language is the educational process carried out?

The official languages at the school are English and Bulgarian. Proficiency in English is a key requirement for accessing the educational content. Students enrolled in programmes based on both educational standards – Cambridge International Education and the National Curriculum of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria, are expected to master the educational content and specific terminology in both languages.

What is the curriculum that is being followed?

The school organises and implements education in accordance with the internationally recognised Cambridge International Education programme for the Primary and Lower Secondary stages, preparing students to obtain IGCSE, AS, and A-level certificates. Additionally, the school provides education in accordance with the State Educational Standards of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria.

When does the school day start and end?

The school day starts at 8:15 AM with registration and ends between 3:30 PM and 4:00 PM, depending on the age group.

Are uniforms mandatory?

At St. George International School and Preschool, daily, sports, and formal uniforms have been introduced for students from Grade 1 to Grade 10. For more information and ordering, please visit the following website: www.stgeorge-uniforms.com.

Students in the A-level programme are required to wear formal business attire at the school.

What does the admission process entail?

The purpose of the admission process is to obtain an objective evaluation of the candidates' actual knowledge and skills. It consists of a series of tests (online and paper-based) and a personal interview aimed at gathering detailed information regarding academic knowledge, learning potential, emotional maturity, adaptability, behaviour, and developmental goals.

How can I prepare for the admission exams?

Specific preparation for the admission exams is not necessary.

When will I receive the results from the admission day?

The results from the admission day are sent via email to the parents within 10 days after the assessment. The shortlisted students and their families will be invited to a meeting with the school management as the next step in the application process.

When will I receive an admission statement?

An admission statement is sent within 3 days after a meeting between the parents and the school's management, which is part of the admission procedure.

When will I sign the tuition contract?

The tuition contract is prepared and sent to parents after receiving a positive admission statement and a completed enrolment application from the parents.

What is the duration of the tuition contract?

The student's tuition contract is valid until the student completes their education or until the contract is terminated.

What is the procedure for termination of the tuition contract?

The tuition contract can be terminated by mutual agreement, with one month's written notice, or unilaterally by either party.

What are the fees?

The fees are published on the school's website and are updated every year by March. The tuition fee at the school varies for returning and new students.

When is the fee for a returning student applicable?

The fee for returning students is applicable when the documents for the student's continued registration for the next academic year are signed before April 30th.

What does the 'Tuition' fee include?

The 'Tuition' fee includes the following:

Education in accordance with the State Educational Standards of the Ministry of Education and Science for the Republic of Bulgaria.
Preparation in specific school subjects according to the Cambridge Primary School programme for Primary education and the Cambridge International School programme for Lower and Upper Secondary education within the mandatory curriculum.
Identification of logopaedic status up to the 4th grade, twice a year.
Annual 'Accident Insurance.'
Educational visits with cultural and historical significance in Sofia, museums, theatrical performances, and others.
The organisation of mandatory 'forest schools' outside Sofia as per our Civil, Ecological and Intercultural Education Programme.

Apart from the 'Tuition' fee, additional costs are paid as follows: 'Guarantee Deposit,' 'Educational Resources,' 'Exams,' 'Food,' uniforms, transportation, 'green/white’ schools, reissuing access cards, water bottle availability from vending machines, exceeding the parking limit for parents of preschool and elementary students.

Is the 'Admission' fee deducted from the first instalment of tuition?

The 'Admission' fee is a one-off payment that covers the costs of conducting the admission tests, candidates' stay at the school, as well as subsequent administrative services. It is non-refundable.

When is the first instalment due?

For continuing students for the next academic year, the first instalment must be paid by May 31st of the current calendar year.

For newly admitted students for the next academic year, as well as for admissions in the current academic year, the first instalment is due within 7 days of signing the education contract.

How many instalments can I pay in?

You can choose to pay in one, two, three, or ten instalments. If you opt for staggered payments in two, three, or ten instalments, an additional fee of 3%, 8%, and 10%, respectively, will be applied.

Can I pay in cash?

All fees are payable through bank transfer or at a POS terminal.

What is the price of the meals?

For the 2023-2024 academic year, the cost of meals is €10.50 per day for students in the Primary education stage and €11.50 per day for students in 5 to 12 grades.

Is the food provided through catering at the school?

The school has its own kitchen, and meals are prepared on-site before serving.

When is the 'Food' fee paid?

The 'Food' fee can be paid in one or two instalments, with the first instalment (due by May 31st or 7-days after signing a tuition contract) and the second instalment by November 10th.

When can I apply for admission?

Admissions for the next academic year take place in the months of January, February, and March according to a schedule determined by the school for conducting admission exams.

Admission during the current academic year is also possible, depending on the availability of places in the respective grade. In such a case, an individual examination session is organised.

What is the duration of the admission procedure?

The admission procedure takes approximately 20 days from the admission date.

Is there a scholarship programme?

At St. George International School and Preschool, we support the development of children's individual talents. In this regard, we offer opportunities for full or partial scholarships to students with demonstrated interests and achievements in sports, music, mathematics, and/or the arts, who may not have the financial means to pay regular tuition fees at the school. Scholarship programmes are available only for students in Upper Secondary Education.

What documents do students receive?

After each completed academic year, our students receive documents indicating the completion of their grade (academic transcripts, certificates, diplomas, etc.) according to the Cambridge International Education standards, as well as the State Educational Standards of the Ministry of Education and Science.

Are electronic devices used on the school premises?

The school uses electronic devices (tablets, provided by the school with limited content and internet access) for educational purposes only. The use of other electronic devices unrelated to the learning process is prohibited.

What extracurricular activities are offered?

Upon completing the regular school curriculum, students can choose from over 30 types of sports, arts, music, and creative activities.

What time does the school day begin?

The school day starts with registration at 8:15 AM in the classroom.

Can a student be absent from school?

It is important for students to participate regularly and actively in the learning process. Students should provide a note from the treating physician in case of illness and absence.

How many students are in a class?

There are between 15 and 18 students in the primary stage, with up to 22 students in the subsequent stages.

Is there transport available?

Yes, the school works with a subcontractor company that provides school transport.

My child has allergies; can they bring their own food from home?

The refusal of school meals can only be made in case of a student having a health condition that requires strict dietary restrictions. Allowing the bringing of homemade food to the school premises is in accordance with the school's procedures and complies with the guidelines of the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA).

When are amounts refunded under current contracts?

The reimbursement of amounts under current contracts is done after the end of the academic year.

When is a parent-teacher meeting held?

At the beginning of the academic year, there is a general parent-teacher meeting. After each diagnostic assessment (at the beginning, at the end of the first term, and at the end of the second term), individual parent-teacher meetings with the respective subject teachers are organised. Additionally, each parent has access to timely information about the educational programme, attendance records, grades, and behaviour through their individual profile in the school system.

Do you provide assistance with preparing a portfolio for university applications?

The school has a team of specialists who provide advice and guidance to students toward suitable internships, courses, and supplementary studies to help them build a portfolio for university applications.

Do you offer a summer school?

Yes, every summer, a summer school is organised and conducted on the school's premises for students up to the age of 12. The programme details are announced on the school's website.

Do you offer remote or online learning?

No, the tuition is conducted on-site at the school building.

Preschool

Are there available places in the preschool?

The admission to the preschool for children aged 2 to 5 is year-round, based on documents and subject to available place in the respective age group. In case there are no available places, we can place you on the waiting list.

Admission to the preparatory groups is carried out after completion of an admission procedure and passing admission exams according to the preschool's schedule.

What is the group size for children?

The group size is between 15 and 18 children.

At what age do you admit children?

Children can be admitted from the age of 2.

What are the working hours of the preschool?

The working hours of the preschool are from 8 AM to 6 PM.

In what language is the education carried out in the preschool?

The education and the daily activities at the preschool are conducted in English, apart from the Bulgarian language situations, when the Bulgarian language is used.

For which age groups are uniforms available?

Uniforms are introduced for all age groups in the preschool.

Are uniforms mandatory for all age groups?

Yes, uniforms are mandatory for all age groups.

What extracurricular activities do you offer?

The selection of extracurricular activities is based on the child's age. Groups are formed when enough children have been signed up.

When are extracurricular activities held?

Extracurricular activities are held after the regular school day. Registration in extracurricular activities is done through the parent profile in the preschool's payment platform for the academic term, according to the schedule set by the preschool.

Do you provide transport?

Transport service is provided to children aged 3 and above. The preschool works with a subcontractor company that organises and provides transport for interested children. Transport is available on school days from September 15th to May 31st, according to the school calendar for primary students. The transportation service is not provided during school holidays. The transportation service is offered on an academic term basis, according to the schedule and conditions set by the provider.

What are the tuition fees?

The tuition fees are published on the preschool's website and are updated every year by March.

What happens if I don't pay on time?

After the due date according to the chosen and signed individual payment plan by the parents, the system automatically calculates a penalty for late payment on a daily basis.

Are there any discounts for a second child?

A second child enrolled in the school/preschool receives a 5% discount on the 'Tuition' fee, a third child and each subsequent one receive a 10% discount, and for twins, a 15% discount on the 'Tuition' fee is applied to one of them.

Is there a discount on the monthly fee in case of illness?

In case of prolonged absence of the child due to medical reasons for more than 10 consecutive school days, the preschool refunds 10% of the 'Tuition' fee for the respective period to the parents/guardians. The refunded amount is calculated for the days after the 10th school day until the first day of the child's return, and it is subject to the provision of medical documents for the absence.

We plan to take a vacation during the summer. Can we not pay for that period?

By May 15th of the current year, all parents/guardians are required to inform the preschool in writing about the days in July and August when the child will be absent. If the notification is made within the specified deadline, parents/guardians will pay 50% of the 'Tuition' fee for the days of absence during the months of July and August.

When are amounts refunded in case of absence due to illness or requested vacation?

Reconciliation of amounts from the 'Tuition' fee, including for sickness absences and requested vacation days, is done twice a year – at the end of February and at the end of August.

What is the procedure for terminating the tuition contract?

The tuition contract can be terminated by expiration of the agreed term therein; by mutual consent; with one month's written notice or unilaterally by either party.

How can I receive information about my child's daily routine?

A daily report about the child's day is sent to the parents. Every morning and afternoon, children are greeted and seen off by members of our teaching staff, and if needed, parents can have a brief conversation. Three times a year, parents receive a detailed report on the child's development and academic performance, and after each report, individual parent-teacher meetings are organised.
