Тhree 1st places for our students at the Tenth Bulgarian Creative Writing Competition
‘The true alchemists do not change lead into gold; they change the world into words.’ – William H. Gass
Today, we proudly congratulate our three most truthful alchemists Rada, Nadav and Mihail, who are at the head of their grades on a national level through their eloquence as they took part in the Tenth Bulgarian Creative Writing Competition. ‘Spill some ink!’ is the moto of the event and that is exactly what our students did within a single hour of unsupported raw writing – arranging it onto the paper grammatically, stylistically and uniquely. The competition, organised by CORPluS and supported by the American Embassy and British Council, is open to students from 6th to 12th grades. Amongst 147 schools from all around the country and 3304 submitted essays, St. George International School is honoured to take three out of seven 1st ranking places on this list, which has happened for the first time in the history of this competition.
The Award Ceremony took place on Saturday 15th February at the American University in Blagoevgrad. Associate Professor of English Literature, Michael Cohen led a writing workshop on the topic ‘Settings in character development’. Students learned about Defamiliarisation in Creative writing and were invited to make their own attempts.
At the evening ceremony, our champions received a certificate of participation and awards as well as high-quality English-learning and writing-related materials.
This is the first time our school took place in the competition and we are proud to share this triumph with you, captured within the hearts of our young writers and achievers, because: ‘Creativity is the highest form of intelligence because it goes beyond knowledge recall and extends into knowledge creation.’
